The
Family Selection Committee
This Committee is comprised of several dedicated volunteers - generous -
hearted folks who donate countless hours of their time to help make the
dream of home ownership a reality for deserving families. The
process of selecting a homeowner (partner) family is a laborious one,
but one done with generosity, sensitivity and compassion.
How
does the partnership with homeowners work?
Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to putting in
hundreds of hours of "sweat equity," partner families purchase their
homes with a long-term, no-interest mortgage. This sweat equity reduces the
cost of the house and increases pride of ownership. Homeowners and
volunteers working together foster a sense of community. All participants contribute
and all benefit materially or spiritually.
How
are partner families selected?
Applications are received from prospective homeowners. A Family
Selection Committee chooses partner families based on their level of
need, their willingness to become partners in the program, and their
ability to repay the loan. Partner families must have lived in the area
for at least one year. Neither race, age, sex, marital status nor religion is a factor in choosing
families to receive Habitat houses. Contact
